Thirty-one terms from scheduling, cost control and risk, each with a one-line definition and its Arabic equivalent.
Terms
- Activity
- A piece of work in a schedule with a duration, a start and a finish.
- Actual cost AC
- What the work done so far has cost.
- Baseline
- The approved copy of the schedule and budget that progress is measured against.
- Budget at completion BAC
- The total approved budget for the project.
- Change request
- A formal proposal to change scope, budget or dates, which is approved or rejected.
- Constraintالقيد
- A fixed date placed on an activity that limits when the logic can schedule it.
- Cost performance index CPI
- Earned value divided by actual cost. Below 1.0 means over budget.
- Critical path
- The longest chain of linked activities. It sets the finish date, and its activities have no float.
- Critical path method CPM
- The calculation that finds early and late dates, float and the critical path.
- Criticality index
- The share of simulation runs in which an activity was on the critical path.
- Data date
- The date up to which progress has been recorded. Remaining work is scheduled after it.
- Fourteen checks of schedule quality, such as missing logic, long lags and hard constraints.
- Earned schedule ES
- The point in the plan at which today's earned value should have been reached, measured in time.
- Earned value EV
- The budgeted value of the work actually completed.
- Earned value management EVM
- A method that compares planned value, earned value and actual cost to measure performance and forecast.
- Estimate at completion EAC
- The forecast total cost of the project, based on performance so far.
- Free float FF
- How far an activity can slip before it delays the next activity.
- Gantt chart
- A bar chart of activities against time, with links between them.
- Lag
- A wait added to a link between two activities. A negative lag is a lead.
- Milestone
- A zero-duration point that marks an event, such as an approval or a handover.

- Schedule performance index SPI
- Earned value divided by planned value. SPI(t) is the time-based version from earned schedule.
- To-complete performance index TCPI
- The cost efficiency needed on the remaining work to finish on budget.
- Total float TF
